HEICO-LOCK® Reaction Washers: Safe bolting with high-torque tools – enhanced safety and process efficiency
HEICO-LOCK® Reaction Washers represent a major advancement in the tightening of large bolted joints using electric, hydraulic and pneumatic high-torque tools. In applications above M24, required tightening torques typically exceed manual capabilities, making powered torque tools essential. Increasingly, these tools are also used in smaller dimensions such as M16, particularly in high-volume production environments.
In conventional systems, reaction arms are required to absorb counterforces during tightening. These forces are transferred into surrounding structures to stabilize the tool, which introduces significant safety risks such as pinch points, crushing hazards and tool slipping, even for experiences operators.
HEICO-LOCK® Reaction Washers eliminate the need for reaction arms by enabling reaction-free tightening directly at the bolted joint while maintaining full protection against self-loosening. A specially designed dual-socket system ensures compatibility with high-torque tools from leading manufacturers. Reaction forces are transferred through the washer’s gear-shaped outer geometry within the HEICO socket system, enabling controlled axial load application and preventing harmful bending moments.
For through-bolt applications that traditionally require backup wrenches, HEICO has developed the HEICO-ONE Safety-Washer. This friction-based solution features wave-shaped locking ribs on both sides, which embed into both the component surface and the bolt head or nut, preventing rotation of the passive side and ensuring a safer and more precise tightening process.
