How Cameras Deliver Sharp Images Despite Changing Distances

Perfectly focused images become a challenge when the distance between the camera and the object constantly changes. Autofocus cameras eliminate the need for manual refocusing and ensure that objects or labels are always perfectly visible. This benefits applications such as robot systems, hand scanners, or passport photo terminals. IDS Imaging Development Systems offers a range of models, from a webcam-like camera in industrial quality to a tiny autofocus camera that weighs just 12 grams.

The 13 MP autofocus camera uEye XC closes the market gap between industrial cameras and webcams. Setting up and operating only requires a cable connection. After that, the autofocus camera immediately delivers high-resolution, detailed images and videos. With the optionally available, quickly exchangeable macro lens, users can easily shorten the minimum object distance of the camera. This makes it also suitable for close-up applications.

Designed for use in industrial environments

Unlike consumer webcams, the uEye XC camera is specially designed for industrial use. Its components score with long availability – a must for industrial applications. Useful features such as 24x digital zoom, auto white balance, and color correction ensure that it can capture all details perfectly.

Programmable or plug-and-play? This camera lets you choose! It is either available with UVC (plug & play) or USB3 vision protocol  (programmable, e.g. via IDS peak SDK). It is suitable for all applications where consumer webcams are used to create perfect images at low cost and with little effort, but where industrial quality is an important requirement.

Focus from a distance of just 10 cm

The uEye XS fits into almost any application with its size of just 26.4 x 23 x 21.7 mm. Thanks to its autofocus and 5 MP CMOS  sensor, it delivers consistently sharp images and videos from a distance of just 10 cm. When it comes to image quality, natural color reproduction, and harmonious contrast are also decisive factors.

IDS has therefore equipped the uEye XS with many other practical automatic features familiar from consumer technology. This includes white balance, exposure, and gain. As a result, it delivers the best possible result in every situation. Anyone wishing to fine-tune even more precisely can adjust settings in the SDK (IDS Software Suite).

Thanks to its small size and the proven USB2 interface, the uEye XS camera is suitable as a component in embedded vision systems. It is used, for example, in medical or security applications, in transport and logistics, or in kiosk systems. The uEye XS  starter set is ideal for testing the camera. In addition to the compact USB2 camera, it includes a cable, a tripod adapter, and a tripod.
