As the Olympic Games have kicked- off in Paris and Marseille, let’s dive into a recap of the major themes we’ve covered so far. From the logistical challenges and cybersecurity measures to video surveillance strategies, and the ambitious sustainability goals, touted as the most eco-friendly Games in history, we’ve got it all. Let’s take a tour of the Olympic sites and explore what makes these Games truly unique.
1/ Cybersecurity
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be the largest event to be held in France since 1900. The figures are staggering: a budget of 7 billion euros, 4 billion television viewers, 12 million spectators, 30,000 volunteers, 10,000 athletes, 206 nations, and 40 competition sites to secure. But let’s not forget the figures linked to the cyber issue either: following on from half a billion attacks in 2016 in Rio, the figure rose to over four billion cyberattacks during the Tokyo Games in 2021. Hence the importance of cybersecurity for this global event.
2/ Video Surveillance
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games present an opportunity for France to test algorithmic video surveillance. The French company Videtics pledges to conduct ethical artificial intelligence-based video surveillance analysis. They secured a contract related to algorithmic video surveillance during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
3/ Sustainability
Paris 2024, which runs from July 26 to August 11, has pledged to reduce the event’s carbon footprint by 50% since it was held in London in 2012.
To achieve this while moving and catering for some 15 million visitors to the capital city, looking after 10,500 athletes, and overseeing almost 330 events at over 40 venues, will be nothing short of a triumph for the International Olympic Committee (IOT) and its partners.
4/ Logistics
The drive towards a collective achievement of this sustainable goal has been pounding onwards behind the scenes in areas from logistics and transportation to catering, accommodation, and staffing. Among those chosen to partner with this year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games is Toyota Material Handling (TMH) France, which manufactures, distributes, and sells material-handling vehicles and industrial equipment.
The company will provide two types of their trucks during the Olympics: the powered pallet trucks, to move goods within a depot from one area to another to load the lorries, and the CB counterbalance forklift trucks to take goods from the lorry to the different areas on site.
5/ IoT
Innovation takes center stage during Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It extends its reach from intricacies like sensors monitoring the quality of the Seine River to the comprehensive oversight of all digital facets of the event.
Acknowledged as the “most connected” Olympics to date, Paris 2024 serves as a testament to the seamless integration of technology and sports.
6/ Olympic Venues

6/ Olympic Torch
The Torch is a symbolic object of the Olympic Games. By bringing the Olympic Flame and the Paralympic Flame, the spirit of the Games arrives in the host country. In what material is the Paris 2024 torch made? Who manufactures the 2000 units? What industrial processes are chosen? We have created this infographic to provide you with answers to these questions.
