Sweetch Energy, a French start-up, has achieved a breakthrough in generating electricity from delta seawater using osmotic energy.

Their patented INOD technology leverages the salinity difference between freshwater and seawater to produce electricity at a significant scale. With plans for a pilot site near Marseille, the innovation could potentially meet the energy needs of the city, home to nearly one million residents.

Having secured 6 million euros in funding last year, Sweetch Energy aims to inaugurate the first large-scale pilot production plant in the Rhône delta by the end of the year, with collaborations with industry leaders like Compagnie Nationale du Rhône (CNR) and EDF reinforcing their commitment to the project.
