BEST OF WEB SUMMIT. Beware of AI!

The best moments from last month’s Web Summit in Lisbon featured a parade of personalities from various sectors. They questioned the role of artificial intelligence and underscored its possible threats to human civilization.

In the spotlight, world-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking warned of AI’s possible destructive effects. In contrast, Al Gore stressed the positive aspects of technology. Chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov battled IBM’s Deep Blue computer in the 1990s. Today, he reckons humans must make sure they’re not outflanked by AI machines. The floor then went to Sophia, the AI robot designed by Hanson Robotics. “She” assured the audience that robots are not here to erase humanity, but that they will take our jobs. Enjoy our zapping!
