Eho.Link Works to Enhance Cybersecurity at SMEs
Founded in 2016, Marseilles-based Eho.Link has developed Eho.Network, a "plug and play" device that is installed between the internet gateway and the local network.

Mention the words “cybersecurity incident” and our minds tend to drift towards sensational data breaches that make the national or international news from time to time. Yet while they typically stay under the press radar, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are at even greater risk from cyber threats – threats that when realized often have hugely damaging consequences.

In a time of increased remote working and ever-more digitalized workflow, today’s SMEs are facing major cybersecurity challenges. Factors such as pressurized budgets, a lack of cyber-skills and an upward trend in cyber-crime have all contributed to leaving many companies overexposed and unsure how best to bolster their defenses, says Emmanuel Deloget, co-founder and Head of Embedded Software at French start-up Eho.Link.

“SMEs represent a large part of our economic fabric, yet most of them are not adequately protected. With the rise of a new kind of platform called Malware-as-a-Service (MaaS), cyber-attacks on such companies are becoming increasingly prevalent and indiscriminate. This is where we aim to help.”

Power to the People

Founded in 2016, Marseilles-based Eho.Link has developed Eho.Network, a “plug and play” device that is installed between the internet gateway and the local network. This device is connected with a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application which generates activity reports, security alerts, and a wide range of other user-friendly information. Deloget explains:

“With Eho.Network, a company owner or administrator can receive important information about how their network is operating, even if their computer and network-related knowledge is limited. Eho.Network gives them back their power. On the usability side, Eho.Network is both simple to install and simple to operate; on the technical side, it is capable of analyzing, categorizing and blocking malicious traffic at nearly wire-speed through the use of custom algorithms. And using various in-house technologies and innovations, it can help to manage web accesses, detect and protect IoT devices, and propose even more relevant services to SMEs.”

Comprehensive Support

The Eho.Network solution is actually built around three different “pillars” – in addition to the cybersecurity pillar outlined above, there are also legality and productivity. On the legal side, Eho.Link supports SME owners in the implementation of local regulations – this encompasses a wide range of activities, from the handling of the IT Charter to GDPR support. On the productivity side, the company supplies metrics and information, helping SMEs define policies for the use of Internet resources.

“Eho.Network is a comprehensive and innovative solution that was specifically developed and built for SMEs. We did not build a large, complex product that we scaled down: instead, we developed our solution from scratch with small companies in mind. Companies that have so far been ‘forgotten’ by the cybersecurity industry.”

Future Focus

Following three fundraising rounds that have generated 5 million euros, Eho.Link has started recruiting on a commercial level and is also strengthening its R&D in order to integrate new functionalities around digital nomadism and teleworking.

“Commercialisation of the Eho.Network solution will start in France at the very beginning of 2022. Eho.Link is currently expanding its distribution network. Our goal is to rapidly enter the international market.”
