VLF SINE 37, built for commissioning engineers and service teams, it enables reliable withstand testing, Tan Delta measurements, and partial discharge diagnostics.
By Mark Behringer, Marketing Manager at Megger
Cable faults can cause major downtime, hike up maintenance costs, and create serious safety risks. That’s why rapidly and accurately identifying of weak spots is essential for maintaining the reliable performance of your network. At Megger, a leader in electrical testing equipment with over 100 years of experience, we provide powerful and advanced cable testing and diagnostics that far exceed traditional methods.
Compact yet powerful, the system helps teams reduce setup time, operate safely, and perform compliant testing across a wide range of cable conditions – from new installations to ageing infrastructure.
“The VLF SINE 37 was shaped by real feedback from utility engineers and field crews,” said Hein Putter, Product Manager at Megger. “We knew it needed to be fast to set up, simple to use, and absolutely reliable – even under pressure. Whether you’re testing a new cable or investigating a fault, this system gives you the confidence to get it right first time.”
Designed for the realities of field testing
With power networks under pressure from ageing infrastructure, regulatory demands, and limited outage windows, engineers need more from their test equipment. The VLF SINE 37 meets that need head-on, offering advanced diagnostics, intuitive operation, and unmatched flexibility in a lightweight, rugged format.
Industry-leading test capacity
You can test longer cable runs or all three phases in one session – thanks to its high testable capacity of 1.6 µF at 0.1 Hz at 37 kV peak. That means more efficiency without sacrificing data quality or compliance. Lower-frequency testing often compromises trending data, but the VLF SINE 37 keeps you aligned with industry standards for reliable interpretation.
Advanced on-board diagnostics
Integrated functions include:
• Withstand testing (monitored or non-monitored)
• Fully automated Tan Delta (dissipation factor) measurements
• Partial discharge testing (with optional PD coupler)
• Sheath testing, including fault pinpointing
• Increased insulation resistance range measurement up to 5 GOhm
Fast, intuitive controls
No steep learning curve. The system’s graphical user interface (GUI) is a key part of this intuitive design. It guides users step-by-step through setup, testing, and diagnostics, reducing training time and helping even first-time operators work confidently. The 7″ trans-reflective touchscreen and rotary encoder simplify navigation, even when wearing gloves.
Alexis Vera, Site Supervisor at Fusion Electrica Global, shared his experience:
“The GUI of the VLF SINE is truly excellent – incredibly user-friendly and intuitive. Thanks to its clear, step-by-step guidance, we can fully train new operators in just one session. This simplicity not only makes daily operation much easier but also significantly reduces our training time and effort. It’s a real game-changer for us.”
Built-in safety features
Operator safety is prioritized with a wide range of safeguards, including:
• Emergency stop and dual safety key switches
• Return voltage detection and auto-discharge
• Optional external safety control and signal lamps
All operations comply with international standards such as DIN VDE, EN, and IEC.
Built for field performance
At just 29 kg, the VLF SINE 37 is easy to transport and deploy in the field. Its wide environmental tolerance (-20°C to +55°C), optional rugged transport case, and IP21 protection rating make it ideal for substations and remote locations.
Designed with input from field technicians and commissioning engineers, the VLF SINE 37 delivers dependable results even in tight outage windows and challenging environments.
