Semiconductor company STMicroelectronics has introduced this week two innovative microcontroller units (MCUs) designed to enhance connectivity, security, and energy efficiency in industrial applications. The STM32WBA6 and STM32U3 MCUs bring cutting-edge features to healthcare, industrial automation, and environmental monitoring. The company believes these new generation will help developers create more powerful and efficient connected devices.
1/ The STM32WBA6: Advanced Wireless Microcontrollers for Smart Connectivity
The STM32WBA6 series is a new generation of power-efficient, short-range wireless MCUs designed to simplify IoT integration in consumer, industrial and agricultural applications. These microcontrollers are tailored for connected devices such as wearable health monitors, smart locks, and environmental sensors.
Here are the key features:
Expanded Memory & Digital Interfaces
With up to 2MB of Flash and 512KB RAM, the STM32WBA6 provides ample storage for complex applications. It also supports high-speed USB, multiple SPI, I2C, and UART interfaces.
Multi-Protocol Wireless Communication
It enables seamless connectivity across multiple platforms (Bluetooth, Zigbee, Thread, Matter etc.)
Security
It features SESIP3 and PSA Level3 certifiable security assets. These include cryptographic accelerators, TrustZone® isolation, and a secure random number generator to comply with upcoming RED and CRA regulations.
Power Efficiency
It runs on the Arm® Cortex®-M33 core at up to 100MHz. This ensures high performance as well as low energy consumption.

2/ The STM32U3: Ultra-Low Power MCU for Sustainable and Secure IoT Devices
The STM32U3 series is designed to meet the stringent energy demands of IoT applications. It aims at enabling long-lasting, maintenance-free smart devices. According to the company, this series is for example, perfect for utility meters, medical devices, and remote environmental monitoring systems.
Here are the key features:
Energy Efficiency
The STM32U3 reduces dynamic power consumption significantly, achieving twice the efficiency of previous STM32U5 models. With 10µA/MHz active power consumption and an ultra-low 1.6µA stop current, it also maximizes battery life.
Security
It embeds in-factory provisioning of secret keys enhances protection, eliminating vulnerabilities related to CPU key fetching.
Advanced Connectivity & Processing
It incorporates the latest I3C digital interface, a dual-bank 1MB Flash memory, and 256KB SRAM to support advanced applications.
