Automation company has launched the VT-X850, a new 3D X-ray inspection solution based on computed tomography (3D CT AXI). This advanced system is designed to meet the stringent inspection needs of critical systems in electric vehicles (EV) and electronic components.

According to the company, the VT-X850 simplifies the inspection of large, complex, and dense materials thanks to a high-powered X-ray tube and artificial intelligence (AI). The solution enhances the inspection process of assembled modules. It focuses on connector pin filling and power devices and prioritizes the detection of voids and faulty solder joints.

All that with speed, precision, and ease of use, explained Kevin Youngs, EMEA Sales Director of OMRON Europe’s Inspection Systems Division:

“We aimed to create a product that not only addresses technical challenges but also allows professionals of all expertise levels to conduct efficient inspections. The VT-X850 demonstrates OMRON’s commitment to developing technologically advanced innovations that are accessible to users.”

Key Features of the VT-X850

Here is a recap of the key features of the new solution:

Increased Speed and Reproducibility: The use of a high-power X-ray tube, up to 160 kV, ensures clear and stable images in shorter times, even for complex materials like heat sinks or aluminum castings.

Handling Heavy and Large Modules: The solution accommodates modules up to 335 mm in height and 40 kg in weight.

AI-Based Inspection: AI binarization guarantees high-quality image processing, making the VT-X850 user-friendly for individuals with varying technical backgrounds.

Automatic Detection of Solder Joints and Voids: No need for manual adjustments. You can perform precise and efficient inspections without specific technical skills.

EV Market

The VT-X850’s drawer structure and manual lever facilitate easy maintenance and replacement of the X-ray tube. Kevin Youngs adds that the unit also performs inspections of complex and hard materials. This is a growing demand especially in the booming electric vehicle market.

“As the electric vehicle market continues to expand, the need for precise, efficient, and user-friendly inspection solutions becomes essential. The VT-X850 is ideal for manufacturers seeking impeccable quality control for complex materials and components.”
