As reported on L’UsineNouvelle website, French company Sunpartner Technologies will begin producing its Wysips® transparent photovoltaic module on an industrial scale next year. The acronym stands for What you see is photovoltaic surface, indicating that nearly any surface can become a mini power plant. Based on copper-gallium-indium-selenium technology, the thin-film product is designed to power and recharge cellphones, watches and a host of connected objects. It’s designed to liberate users from absolute reliance on chargers and replacement batteries. In partnership with Chinese screen maker Truly Semiconductors, production will begin in the second half of 2018 in Shenzhen. This should result in annual panel output of 150,000 m2. Sunpartner also has received European Investment Bank financing for the construction of a new site near Aix-en-Provence. Company CEO Ludovic Deblois expects the market for such products to exceed three billion dollars by 2022.
