#18 - OIL & GAS AND SAFETY

This Soldier is a Robot

His name is Iron Man, his nickname, Ivan the Terrible. The Russian Foundation for Advanced Research Projects (the equivalent of the American DARPA) exhibited last month on Russian TV a prototype humanoid military robot. It is designed to intervene in battle and other dangerous zones where the risk of fires, explosions and radiation are very high. The robotic soldier is not autonomous, but is remotely piloted by an operator wearing a virtual reality helmet and a sensor suit to control the robot’s movements. While Iron Man is still only a prototype and not yet a Terminator, it raises many questions, the first being, Is a robotized army desirable?
