Smart HMI Software Simplifies Grinding Operations

Developed by APeC Integration Services in collaboration with NUM USA, the client- and application-specific HMI software has simplified procedures for Landis centerless grinders. Retrofitting with this unique, intuitive HMI can help leading railcar axle manufacturers simplify precision grinding operations.

APeC worked closely with machine operators to simplify operations and increase productivity. Based on NUM’s Flexium CNC platform, the solution provides fast and accurate depth control and real-time feedback to the operator throughout the grinding cycle.

The HMI software is task oriented, using individual screens tailored to each application, with single, virtual pushbuttons displayed for most operations, confining the operator’s available options to those appropriate to each task, helping to ensure consistent and efficient machine use.

The PLC can control and monitor CNC functions directly. APeC says this approach is especially useful for automated teaching functions, such as guiding an operator through different procedures.
