RoboCoke Hits the Big Apple

Coca-Cola recently unveiled the world’s first and largest 3D robotic advertising panel. Towering over New York’s Times Square, the billboard stands over 20 meters high and 12 meters wide. Taking four years to design, test and construct, it consists of 1760 mobile LED cubes. The moving cubes, each a small screen, can simulate wave and other movements. In a company video, the August 8 launch resembled a block party, with plenty of Coke products available to passers-by. Programmed for 24 hours at a time, the giant panel displays advertising appropriate to the time of day. For example, at meal times, it carries food-oriented messages, highlighting Coca-Cola’s wares, of course. Coke relied on help from a host of engineering and other firms to bring the project to a successful conclusion.
