Thyssenkrupp Elevator’s MAX is a predictive maintenance tool designed to keep elevators on the move rather than grounded for repairs. Using Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform, it combines Internet of Things connectivity and Big Data to radically reduce downtime through preemptive maintenance. The company has enhanced the system by partnering with Cyient, an Indian firm specializing in data analytics. Cyient will develop algorithms and integrated solutions to optimize use of elevator data. Thyssenkrupp sees MAX as nothing less than a “game-changing” transformation of the elevator industry. Around the world, 12 million elevators make seven billion trips and move a billion people every day. According to the company, MAX is the first real-time predictive maintenance tool in the industry. By anticipating problems, maintenance can be scheduled for low-demand periods, reducing downtime by as much as 50%. Thyssenkrupp also makes escalators, moving walkways passenger boarding bridges, stair and platform lifts.
