Meet Olli, the Self-Driving Vehicle

Visitors to IMTS were able to take a ride on Olli, the new self-driving electric transit vehicle from Local Motors. Currently operating on roads around Washington, D.C., it is the first such vehicle to integrate the advanced cognitive computing capabilities of IBM Watson Internet of Things. The result is a partnership between computers and people.

Designed to be smart, safe and sustainable, the 12-passenger minibus uses IBM’s technology to analyze and learn from high volumes of data gathered by more than 30 sensors embedded throughout the vehicle.

The platform leverages four Watson developer APIs—Speech to Text, Natural Language Classifier, Entity Extraction and Text to Speech—to enable seamless interaction between vehicle and passengers.
