At IMTS, Force Robots demonstrated its Touch Robot, which combines the dexterity of a human hand with the power of a machine. Its new tool changer enables the robot to use a variety of cutting and material elimination tools for both heavy stock removal and fine finishing. The robotic metal finishing system is “force sensitive,” allowing it to detect and adapt to variations as it manipulates heavy castings.
Unlike conventional robots, which rigidly repeat movements, the Touch Robot has been designed to work as people do, using a well-controlled application of force. It is compact and consists of a four-axis, low-inertia, contact-compliant arm, together with a two-axis part positioner.
