Smart Tattoos Can Communicate With Your Phone

/ /

Researchers at Boston’s MIT have developed DuoSkin, a temporary tattoo that can control phones and other digital devices. Made of gold leaf and silicon overlay, the smart tattoo activates a display and connects wirelessly to a phone through NFC technology. The sticker is powered by a lithium polymer battery and operates using a small computing chip. The PhD student who launched the project created three versions of the tattoo: an input device to turn the skin into a trackpad to adjust the phone; an output device to display information such as body temperature; and a communications device to scan information, which could, for example, replace a bus ticket.
