Race car driver Richard Noble has launched the Bloodhound project, which aims to break the land speed record in October 2017. Its supersonic car is expected to reach Mach 1.4, covering 1 mile in only 3.6 seconds. To do so, the vehicle will be propelled both by a jet engine and a rocket engine. The special wheels are designed to bear the high speeds and sonic booms. Made of aluminum, they will rotate up to 17 times per second, four times faster than on Formula 1 cars. The hybrid vehicle is both aircraft and race car. The front end is made of carbon fiber, while the rear section that resembles an aircraft has a metal framework covered by panels.
