At IFAT 2018, trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management, microplastics is a major concern. Finding avoidance strategies and possible measuring methods for microplastics less than 5 mm in diameter is a priority for many, and to this end an alliance of research institutes and companies has formed. Technical solutions were on display at the fair in Munich last week.
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) responsible for the research program “Plastic in the Environment,” was also be at the fair. The program will run until 2021, investing 35 million euros in 18 projects with partners in science, industry, associations and municipalities.
The Department of Urban Water Management from the Technical University of Berlin also had a booth at the fair focusing on the impact of tire wear on the environment, namely how much tire wear is released into the aquatic environment through road runoff.
