    Introducing Metallic Hydrogen

    Scientists at Harvard University have made it possible to turn the lightest of all elements—hydrogen—into a valuable metal, giving birth to a real revolution. According to the researchers, this is the first ever metallic hydrogen on Earth! It was obtained by taking liquid hydrogen to a temperature far below freezing and at a greater pressure than is found at the center of the planet. The superconductivity potential of this new material is huge. For example, it could enable super-fast computers and high-speed levitation, and lead to ultra-efficient vehicles and powerful rocket propellants. One difficulty remains. The scientists have to reduce the pressure to make sure it is stable at normal temperature. They are still unsure that the new metal can exist under normal conditions.
