Panda-Shaped Solar Plant

In China, Panda Green Energy has just built a 50 megawatt solar plant in the shape of a panda in the Shanxi province. Publicity stunt? Think again. This center is not just aesthetic but a real environmental investment as it will enable the saving of 1.06 million tons of coal and will decrease CO2 emissions by 2.74 million tons in 25 years.

Today China is responsible for a quarter of the world’s CO2 emissions, but it is also the world leader in terms of environmental investment.

Different colors of solar panels were used to create the panda image. The front panels have a capacity of about 310 watts while the back panels are at about 30 watts. The goal is to build another 100 such panda solar plants.

Ly Yuan, president of Panda Green Energy, describes the importance of the panda symbol:

The panda has become an ambassador for the climate and an ambassador of peace, conveying our desire for a green planet to the whole world.
