Q&A. The first Emirates-owned Masterbatch Factory Launched at ArabPlast Dubai

Eco Batch announced the launch of the UAE’s first locally-owned masterbatch factory during ArabPlast 2017. DirectIndustry e-magazine caught up with company founder Badar Al Kaf to find out more.

DirectIndustry e-magazine: What does Eco Batch do?

Bader Al Kaf: Eco Batch was founded in 2015 to develop white and colored masterbatches, as well as additive and oxo-biodegradable masterbatches. These products are used for coloring plastics or improving their properties.

Our factory is based in the industrial area of Al Markaz, in Abu Dhabi, and has a capacity of 400 metric tons per month. We opened in three phases. First we offered white masterbatches, then black, and next month we will start with colored masterbatches.

DirectIndustry e-magazine: What makes your masterbatches different?

Bader Al Kaf: To put it simply, they are of better quality and more competitively priced. That’s what most plastic factories are looking for today.

Our white masterbatch standard range is designed to provide high-temperature stability and excellent dispersion, even at high addition levels. Also, pigment loading up to 70% is offered in our standard range, giving customers the advantage of having to add less, saving on costs and inventory requirements.

DirectIndustry e-magazine: Whom do you currently supply?

Bader Al Kaf: We supply plastic factories in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, and soon we will supply manufacturing facilities in Egypt, Oman and Lebanon. Maybe we will expand internationally someday, but for now, we are focusing on the Gulf and Arab markets.

DirectIndustry e-magazine: What is the level of demand in the UAE?

Bader Al Kaf: The demand in the UAE is huge because it’s one of the countries that produce raw materials and oil, and plastic comes from crude oil refining. Saudi Arabia is also one of the biggest markets for us, so I anticipate that demand will continue to increase in the region.
