German plastics manufacturer igus demonstrates the advantages of 3D printing at this year’s Hannover Messe. The first visitor to deliver a metal wear part to their stand each morning will walk away at the end of the day with a replacement part made of tribo-polymer. Company representatives 3D prints a mold of the part and then creates a replacement via injection molding, all right at the stand. The early-bird visitor will be able to choose from among 50 different plastics. However, due to limited machine availability, igur is restricting the offer to simple parts without undercuts. Size is also limited to components not exceeding 4.5 cm3 and 30 x 60 mm.
