This month’s Bentley Year in Infrastructure conference in Singapore saw the announcement of a new collaboration between Topcon Positioning Systems and Bentley Systems, a heavyweight in infrastructure software. The initiative is designed to teach construction professionals what they call constructioneering—”a process of managing and integrating survey, engineering and construction data to streamline construction workflows and improve project delivery.” The two firms aim to bump the traditionally conservative building industry deeper into the digital age. The goal is to streamline the integration of surveyors, engineers and construction teams to improve workflow efficiency. Topcon Positioning CEO Ray O’Connor underscored potential benefits in road surfacing projects, but added that best constructioneering practices could provide benefits in many areas. Digitizing the entire construction process should boost BIM efficacy through automation and increasing the continuity of step-by-step procedures.
