Coffee + Orange = Plastics

Coffee + Orange = Plastics is the new equation the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) in Spain revealed. The scientists managed to make a bioplastic out of waste food, that could sign the end of petroleum-based PET plastic. Although making bioplastics out of food is not new, the IAAC used uncommon materials such as coffee and orange peels, which proved to have interesting effects. The orange peels offer better heat resistance to the plastics, while the coffee grounds give them hydrophobic qualities. If we cannot get rid of our need for plastics, this new method will surely play a vital role in reinventing them.
