#22 - MIXED REALITY

Bionic Eyes For Boston’s Rail Workers

This month, field mechanics for Boston’s commuter rail system will begin using augmented-reality smart glasses. Linked to a web interface through AMA XpertEye software, they will allow the worker to stream video and communicate in real time from the field. Connected in WiFi, 3G or 4G, the glasses will also enable the wearer’s colleagues back in the office to view exactly what they are seeing, which could facilitate remote maintenance, monitoring and training. According to the Transportation Authority, AR should boost train efficiency, reduce disruptions and cut costs.
